From the Lose Friends series, here is what Jonar Nader has written about:
EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE
All of a sudden we are told that we need to hire people who are ‘emotionally intelligent’. Surely the need for emotional stability and maturity has been important for thousands of years. Why are we now jumping about like lucky archaeologists, ecstatic about finding old gems? Civilisations have flourished without the need to ‘measure’ anyone’s emotional intelligence. Let’s stop trying to categorise people. Let’s stop pretending that we can ask sixty questions to ascertain integrity and inter-personal skills. Human intangibles cannot be examined through a battery of written exams. The most private essence of a person’s fibre can only be measured by deed; not through written tests or sets of trivial and entertaining introspectively-indulging questions.
