ON BEING PREPARED
Winners are those who prepare for victory before they make their first move. As much as humanly possible, they leave nothing to chance. Nothing within their reach remains unchecked. Preparing for failure is a pre-eminent way of maintaining success. Preparing for war is a sure way of securing peace. Preparing for an attack is a superior way of mounting a defence. You might have read about army generals who advise that the best victory comes from the battle that does not have to be fought, because all battles are costly. They say that the second-best situation is to attack what cannot be defended, and defend what cannot be attacked. How do you suppose this can be achieved? Preparedness is the most powerful of deterrents, because your competitors will know that you mean business. Deterrence is infinitely superior to engagement. When all aspects of a project can be aligned with precision, you’ll be ready to synchronise your assault. To the bystander, your systematic execution might look frenzied and violent, when in fact, it is the epitome of orchestration.
